Jørgen Møller Hansen, Four Diamonds.
Re-framing Four Diamonds 1995, July 2026
For some reason that I cannot recall I had doubled up on the number of connector tubes required.
One spare would have been quite adequate.
The new rods were cut in the same layout that Jørgen had used.
The cut ends of the yellow fibreglass tubes were consolidated with adhesive.
The vertcal rods were inserted and a worn fabric spar tube was seen.
I decided to try an external fix. A piece of ripstop was cut to size and adhesive film was applied around the edge, not where the worn through fabric was on the spar tube This patch was applied with the tube in place.
Another view of the patch.
The spars were installed and the sails looked good and tight.
I was troubled by the split rings being set over the spars but looped the actual bridle line loops over the spars as we have done conventionally.
There are four instances where the steel rings are in place and it will be interesting to see how the bridle lines were set relative to these four points.
Breaking down the frame is very easy with an appropriate piece of 'string'!
I hope to get a test flight on Sunday 2nd August 2026. Some re-adjustment of the two central bridle lines is required before any further test flights.
